what would happen to the animal cell in the hypertonic solution if it were placed in pure water?

If you mean if the cell were placed in a HYPERtonic solution, then the cell (which would be HYPOtonic) would shrivel or shrink. Water would flow out of the cell.

If you mean if the cell (which would HYPERtonic compared to pure water) were placed in pure water, which is HYPOtonic, then the cell would burst. Water would flow into the cell.

Remember the osmosis rule: water flows from HYPO to HYPER. Another way to think of it is, water always follows the solutes. There are more solutes in HYPERtonic solutions.
